Atikilt Assefa graduated from the School of Fine Art and Design at Addis Ababa University and currently works as a full time studio artist. His works explore both the city life of Addis Ababa and other metropolitan areas, as well as the social aspects of small town life in Ethiopia. In his painting, Tattoo Woman, he depicts a beautifully tattooed woman with a traditionally braided coiffure and earrings and emphasizes her working hands. Atikilt’s first exhibition abroad, in the United States, was in 2012. Among a number of show, his works were presented in the exhibit Ethiopian Art: Philosophy, Dreams and Wishes at the Ethnic Art Gallery at the Municipal Tower of Seattle, from January to April 2013.
